The Chair of Freehand Drawing

The Chair of Freehand Drawing was born together with the Ural Branch of Moscow Architectural Institute in 1967. At that time it combined freehand drawing, painting and sculpture. The first head of the Chair was V.A.Igoshev, People’s Artist of Russia. Then V.A.Igoshev moved to Moscow Architectural Institute, and the Chair was handed over to Professor A.F.Burak, Honorary Artist of Russia. During his period of chairholding new freehand course programmes were designed for architecture and design students. In the early 1990s Associate Professor F.I.Bozhko replaced Professor Burak as head of the Chair. F.Bozhko opened new specialties such as Monumental Decorative Art and Decorative Applied Art and Folk Crafts and spent a lot effort and time for developing these new lines Currently the Chair is headed by Associate Professor A.V.Tryastsyn The Chair of Freehand Drawing provides practical classes in freehand drawing for students of design, architecture, decorative applied art, jewellery art, fashion design and book design.

The staff of the Chair provide classes to those who are preparing to enter the Academy at preparatory courses, in architectural classes of secondary schools and in other regions of Russia (Anapa, Yugorsk, Tyumen, Tobolsk, etc.) as well as in the art school for children attached to the Academy. The staff of the chair consists of 16 people including 13 associate professors and 3 senior lecturers, 3 members of the Union of Artists of Russia, 3 members of the Union of Designers of Russia and 2 members of the Union of Architects of Russia.

The Staff of the Chair take part in various exhibitions – local, regional, national and international. To name the most significant of them:

- Professor A.F.Burak took part in exhibitions in Japan, Italy. His works are now on display in museums in Russia and abroad;

- Associate Professor F.I.Bozhko won a prize at an International Book Exhibition

- Associate Professor E.I.Sterligova as animated cartoon artist took part in film
