WebWarper / Why to optimize your site

Antivirus protection for your site

That is the most interesting feature of WebWarper-based optimization of your site.

Of course, we do not suspect you of hosting infected elements on your site. But it is quite possible that your site contains links to other sites. It is possible that the number of these sites is pretty large, for example, if you have a renewable catalog of web resources. Besides that, if you have at least one ad banner, it means that you have a link to other site, that is usually unknown to you (banner leads to different sites at different moments of time).

If your visitor clicks on some link, especially on a banner, it is hard to predict his or her location in five minutes time.

Regretfully, there are a whole lot of sites that intentionally try to infect their visitors. What are the reasons? The most simple is, for example, demonstration of some advertisement once in five minutes. Virus author is a client of àn advertising company and gets some money for every 1000 views.

Suppose that a person visits your site, decides to leave it using your link or banner, and, after several minutes, is unexpectedly infected with virus or trojan. Suppose that he or she will not appreciate you offering an infected link!

If your site is optimized using WebWarper, the risk of user infection is essentially lowered. While leaving your site, user continues using WebWarper service for viewing other sites. Because of antivirus protection provided by the service, the chance for user to get infected is quite low.

It is a tradition for software directories to warn about the necessity of checking downloaded .exe files for viruses. The link to antivirus software is usually provided.

Antivirus protection by WebWarper is a logical extension of this practice. If you have links to sites in the content of which you are not 100%-sure, give your user a chance to visit them in a safe way!

Complete optimization of your site with WebWarper is the simplest, though not only way. If you do not want to optimize your site, but place links to potentially dangerous ones, you can do the following — duplicate each link, providing users the version of the same site that went through WebWarper antiviral filter. (You can read about the ways of link modification on the service description page.)

Suppose that you have a list of resources, located in your directory or obtained using a search query:

First resource (the description is listed here)

Second resource (the description is listed here)
. . . . .

Add a "safe" version to each link:

  — usual access
  — safe access with antivirus protection
First resource (the description is listed here)

  — usual access
  — safe access with antivirus protection
Second resource (the description is listed here)
. . . . .

Thus, you just inform your users that they can secure themselves while visiting the site with content you are unsure about. This feature can become very helpful for your visitors: these security measures for an average person are far more simple than remembering to disagree with installing suspicious ActiveX elements, and remembering which ActiveX are to be considered "suspicious". For example, a lot of sites require Macromedia Flash ActiveX. For inexperienced user it is hard to understand and remember that it is safe and necessary to install Flash, while it is always necessary to reject any other ActiveX.

It is easy to improve the abovementioned idea by adding other features. For example, it is possible to offer visiting the same site in the super-dense mode of WebWarper, using http://webwarper.net/ww/~s/ prefix instead of http://webwarper.net/ww/~av/. This feature is convenient for mobile phone users and guarantees 100% antivirus protection.

A note — antivirus protection does not work if WebWarper advertising (added to all pages viewed through WebWarper) is active. But in case you optimized your site following the instruction located on our main page, WebWarper ads are automatically disabled for the users viewing your site. When user leaves your site, the ads remain off for one hour. In other words, even leaving your site following a link or a banner, the user still continues using WebWarper without ads.

If you did not optimize your site, but offered alternative links through WebWarper to your visitors (as it was described above), you need to add to your pages the http://webwarper.net/wwgz/removeadvertisement.js script that disables WebWarper ads. Please see the variant B of site optimization on the main page of WebWarper, HTML-code #1.
